Community Outreach

Schoolboy lacemaker Volunteers for the museum take lectures about lace to local organizations, provide hands-on instruction at local schools and children's craft fairs, and demonstrate lace making at annual county and craft fairs.

Volunteers may also be able to repair your lace. Contact the museum to see if there is anyone who is available to do your repair. Cost $50 per hour of work.

The Lace Museum and The San Mateo County Fair!

Please help us make Lace a big part of the display at the 2015 San Mateo County Fair by entering your hand made lace!  (All types of lace are eligible: Bobbin, Needle, Tape, Tatting, Knitting, Crochet, Teneriffe, and Netted). 

You can also volunteer to help sit at the booth and demonstrate or talk about lace!

The San Mateo County Fair Creative Arts Department online entry form will be available at the fair website in mid-February at 

You may enter 2 pieces in any one class. The entry fee is $2 per piece payable to the Fair.  Entry fee includes 1 free ticket to the fair. There is no residency requirement for the San Mateo County Fair, the pieces must not have been previously entered in the fair, and must be hand delivered and picked up from the fair.  Pieces do nothave to have been completed in 2014 or 2015 to be eligible, earlier pieces may be entered. You may deliver and pick up your own piece(s) or take advantage of The Lace Museum’s delivery service. If you want to use the museum delivery and pick up service for your lace, a form will be available on the museum website and at the museum. (Lace only please – The Lace Museum will not deliver items for other classes.)

Assistance in completing the online forms will be available at The Lace Museum during regular business hours April 1 – May 2 (Tues through Sat 11 AM – 4 PM).

Lace items must be mailed or dropped off at the museum the week of May 14 - 23 (again during regular business hours Tues – Sat, 11 AM – 4 PM).  If you are shipping an item, please insure it and pay for tracking and include return postage and insurance. And let us know by phone or email that it is coming!

Important dates: Lace must be delivered to the museum May 14 - 23
Pieces will be delivered to the fair on May 26 or 27
Pick up your free fair entry tickets at the museum from May 28 to June 13
The lace will be displayed at the Fair June 6 – 14
Pieces delivered to the fair by the museum must be picked up at the museum June 16 -20
