Continuing Bedfordshire Bobbin Lace

Course Description: This class is a continuation with more techniques to learn.  Invisible add and discard of pairs, Cluny crossings, half stitch bud with the option of a raised-rolled tally in the middle, start a trail going both directions and hints and tips for joining and hiding the ends of the thread.  Come learn more new tricks for your lacing skills.  You’ll still love leaves when you leave.

Level: Continuing / Intermediate

Gros Point de Venise Needle Lace

Instructor: Loretta Holzberger

Course Description: Learn about the elements that make Gros Point de Venise needle lace unique and different.  Practice and use some of the stitches and techniques.  Heavy padding of outlines, diamond grids worked in cloth stitch, pea stitch, and extra frills added to the heavy padding are some of the techniques that will be included.  Students may choose to work on a trefoil design, butterfly, or a practice sampler during class.  Both patterns are included in 3 sizes for 3 different weights of thread.

Level: Intermediate / Advanced

First Knitted Lace Workshop: The Ophidian Shawl

Course Description: This perfect first lace project is a triangle shawl in either fingering or dk-weight yarn that sets up the top-down structure in easy garter stitch after my favorite tab start. Soon a lovely textured lace pattern emerges, embellished with beads. We cover the basics of chart reading and discuss intuitive ways to increase accuracy and speed in your lace knitting. The crochet hook add-as-you-go bead method is the beading method used.

Level: Adventurous Beginner

Lace and Bead Color Study: The Laurien Shawl

Course Description: The Laurien Shawl, a luxuriously wide triangle shawlette that is worked from the neck down, calls for two different bead colors. We learn about the interesting dimensional, reflective, and other properties that beads bring to knitted lace, with the added complexity of using two bead colors together. The crochet hook add-as-you-go bead method is the beading method used.

Diamond Fantasy Shawl

Course Description: Hone your lace knitting skills while immersing yourself in the fascinating rhythm of this tip-to-top diamond lace triangle shawl with a garter stitch sawtooth lace edging worked at the same time as the inner mesh lace. This shawl has finessed finishing details including attached I-cord and short row shaping. The crochet hook add-as-you-go bead method is introduced as an ideal embellishment for lace. This is a great project for beginning and experienced lace knitters alike.

Prerequisites: Students need to know how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and perform basic lace stitches such as yarn overs and decreases. Some lace knitting experience and comfort with chart reading recommended.
